| Notes | In the old Kingdom of Dahomey, this throne was called zingpo gandeme ("seat of the king"). This piece is a late 18th/early 19th century copy of the throne of the king Kpengla (1774-1789), grandfather of king Adandozan. The throne was presented as a gift - together with the cane, the royal sandals and the leather bag shown in the picture - from king Adandozan to the King John VI of Portugal in 1811. The objects entered the collection of the National Museum of Brazil in 1818. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
